Mastercard Foundation Graduate Scholarships 2025/2026 at Makerere University

Makerere University, in collaboration with the Mastercard Foundation, is inviting applications for the 2025/2026 Masters Scholarships. This program is dedicated to fostering inclusive higher education and enabling 1,000 young Africans to drive social and economic transformation in their communities.

Through this initiative, Mastercard Foundation will provide fully funded scholarships at Makerere University’s main campus for undergraduate and graduate students over a ten-year period. The program is tailored to assist outstanding students from Sub-Saharan Africa who face financial obstacles in accessing quality education.

Scholarship Coverage

Successful applicants will receive:

• Full tuition and university fees
• Learning resources, including laptops and books
• Accommodation, bedding, and meals
• Health insurance
• Monthly living stipend
• Transportation support between home and campus

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be a Ugandan citizen, refugee, individual with a disability, internally displaced person, or an African international student
• Have applied for admission to Makerere University for the 2025/2026 academic year
• Hold an undergraduate degree obtained from an institution in Africa
• Demonstrate financial need
• Not currently hold another scholarship
• Not be enrolled in or have completed a master’s degree program
• Exhibit leadership qualities and engagement in community service
• Be under 35 years old at the time of application (refugees and applicants with disabilities may apply up to age 40)
• Refugee applicants must provide a valid Refugee Identity Card or Family Attestation document
• Apply for a master’s degree program that aligns with the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program priorities
