Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship 2025 at Chatham House – Applications Open

The Mo Ibrahim Foundation Academy Fellowship 2025 at Chatham House is now accepting applications. This program, a collaboration with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, provides early-to-mid-career professionals with the opportunity to spend ten months at Chatham House, conducting independent research on a topic of their choice.

Fellows actively contribute to the Institute’s work, enhance their expertise through leadership training, and expand their professional networks in international affairs.

Fellowship Structure

Fellows dedicate their time to three core areas:

  • Independent Research Project (60%) – Participants develop and execute a research project of their choosing, guided by a Chatham House expert.
  • Leadership Masterclass Programme (20%) – A key component of the fellowship, this programme enhances fellows’ knowledge, networking abilities, and leadership skills to support their future careers.
  • Collaboration on Ongoing Research (20%) – Fellows contribute to existing research initiatives, working with their host team and other departments at Chatham House.

Fellowship Benefits

Fellows receive a monthly stipend of £2,565 to cover living expenses in London, including accommodation, food, utilities, and transport.

Chatham House also provides:

  • Relocation Support – Coverage for travel, accommodation, and visa fees. If needed, Chatham House will sponsor a T5: Temporary Work – Government Authorised Exchange visa.
  • Health Coverage – The UK Immigration Health Surcharge is included (excluding dental, optical, and prescription costs).
  • Research Funding – Support for fieldwork, outreach, events, and publications.

Upon successfully completing the fellowship, alumni gain access to:

  • The Academy faculty and alumni network
  • A five-year Chatham House membership

Eligibility Criteria

  • Open to citizens of any African country, including those with dual nationality.
  • Applicants must have a completed BA degree or equivalent and relevant research experience.
  • Ideal candidates are at the early-to-mid-career stage and may come from academia, NGOs, business, government, civil society, or the media.
  • Applicants should demonstrate an interest in international affairs, their chosen research area, and Chatham House’s mission.
  • There are no age restrictions, but fellows must commit full-time to the program without engaging in other work or studies.

  • A CV/résumé
  • Names of two referees
  • A research proposal aligned with the program’s topic guidelines
