Call for Applications: 2025 NewSchools GenAI Math Grant – Funding up to $300,000

The NewSchools Venture Fund is inviting proposals for its GenAI Math Grant 2025, aimed at advancing AI-driven math tutoring solutions. The goal is to support innovative projects built on custom-trained foundation models, improving accessibility and quality in personalized math instruction. Each selected venture can receive up to $300,000 in funding, plus access to expert support and evaluation services.

Although generative AI shows strong potential in education, concerns about accuracy and scalability have slowed widespread adoption. Through this grant, NewSchools hopes to accelerate the creation of AI models specifically adapted for math tutoring that meet classroom needs and instructional standards.

What the Grant Offers:

  • Up to $300,000 per project, disbursed in two stages
  • Expert-led support for development and testing
  • Product feedback and educational alignment consulting
  • Connection with other innovators and ventures nationwide

Eligibility Criteria: Applicants must propose solutions that:

  • Support individualized or small-group math tutoring aligned with the school curriculum
  • Incorporate best practices in teaching, including standards-based and scaffolded instruction
  • Use foundation models optimized for math (e.g., Mathstral, o1, LearnLM, Phi-3, Claude 3, Llama 3.2)
  • Are prepared to test in U.S. classrooms no later than early 2026
  • Commit to participating in a third-party research study

Nonprofits, startups, universities, and existing educational teams incorporating AI into math tutoring for the first time are all welcome to apply.
