2025 Community-Based Archives Grant – Call for Proposals

Deadline: March 28, 2025

Applications are now open for the 2025 Community-Based Archives Grant, a funding opportunity designed to provide direct support to archives that represent and serve marginalized communities.

About the Grant

Community-based archives are organizations dedicated to collecting, preserving, and sharing materials that document the histories and identities of underrepresented communities. These archives play a vital role in affirming community identity, combating misinformation, and providing a safe space for cultural traditions, languages, and artistic expressions to thrive. They serve as a counter-response to historical exclusion by mainstream cultural institutions, ensuring a more diverse and inclusive historical record.

Between 2019 and 2021, this program awarded nearly $5 million to 46 community archives. With this new round of funding, an additional $5 million will be distributed over three grant cycles.

Grant Details

  • Funding Amount: $25,000 – $100,000
  • Grant Duration: Two years (August 1, 2025 – July 31, 2027)

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, organizations must:

Be based in the United States or U.S. territories
Hold 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status or be a federally recognized Indian tribe
